One of the finest private houses in the Wild East

On the leafy boarder of Norfolk and Suffolk, Somerleyton Hall lies just three hour’s drive from London. Renowned as one of the finest stately homes in the country, the building you see today was created when Victoria was still on the throne. It was shaped by her husband’s chief sculptor and architect, John Thomas, and celebrated garden designer to the aristocracy. William Andrews Nesfield. The Hall’s spectacular nature has seen it used as a setting for many television shows and films including Steven Poliakoff’s The Lost Prince and Netflx hit series The Crown where it was used to depict the Royal Norfolk Residence Sandringham which shares much of the same architecture.

Accommodation

Somerleyton has twelve charming bedrooms set over two floors, ten of which are en-suite. There is also an additional apartment in the stable yard for extra guests or staff. The old servant bells give each room a name and sense of character which we have allowed to guide us during renovations which we hope adds to the hall's warmth and character.

Re-wilding

At the forefront of the ambitious European rewilding programme, we have given over 1,000 acres of land on the Norfolk/Suffolk boarder to nature. From 2017 our farmland has gradually been restored to self-management, leading to the protection and restoration of carefully managed sustainable wildland that is now home to free-roaming deer, cattle, sheep, ponies and rich bird and plant life. Our conservation project is committed not just to the protection and restoration of wildland but in connecting people with nature and to motivate and inspire them to become part of our vision.
